When actual science is involved, WLC loses. Dispensing the boots to the head is Sean Carroll.
A note scribbled on a napkin and left behind by a passenger on a Westjet flight. It reads:
To Capt./Westjet the cockpit of an airliner is no place for a woman. A woman. A woman being a mother is the most honour, not as ‘captain.’ Were short mothers not pilot’s westjet. Proverbs 31 (Sorry not PC) PS I wish WestJet could tell me a fair lady is at the helm so I can book another flight!
The other side says “in the end this is all mere vanity… not impressed”, and is signed “respectfully, in love, David”.
The pilot’s response is ultra classy, though:

If “David” wants to play duelling bible quotes, then en garde!
Hat Tip to Melissa McEwan, Shakesville
How far have we fallen? Is there a bottom to the well of stupidity that christianity is? I keep expecting one day that people will grab a clue, catch on to the devious mind-fuck of organized religion and simply say, “Enough.”
That fabled day seems to be moving into the future – outpacing our best attempts ever to reach it. Why? Because we need to believe so desperately in magic that we throw Reason right out fracking window. Critical thinking, rationality, skepticism? Defenestration for the lot of you! Jebus trumps all your asses!
Discern4’s video is light-hearted but the it does not answer the question that is begging to be answered: who responds to this bunk? Who twizzles the the holy tassels of jesus in hopes of having their debt magically cleared?
I know who.
Desperate, ignorant people. The very same ones religion has been ‘praying’ on since the beginning of our history. The practice is immoral and has no place in a civilized society (yes dear reader you get to fill in the blanks for the indeterminate referal in the the sentence – whatever you pick will work, trust me).
Where do you draw the line between taking on bad arguments and lending credence to corrosively stupid notions? This was one of the meta-debates that went on before, during and after the Nye v. Ham debate. It is a fine line to walk as savaging creationist stupidity publicly lends said stupidity, a veneer of credibility that it most certainly does not deserve. Bill did a fairly good job of making Ham’s arguments look like the silly pap that they are, but also brought more attention to the creationist set of bass-ackward notions as a whole.
Creation “science” needs to pack up its silly bags and go away. But I’m unsure if this is the right way to go about it. Anyhow, enjoy the post debate analysis. :)
The title of this video is “what if you’re wrong” and yes atheist friends DM2525 does touch on that venerated old chestnut of Pascal’s Wager, but like M. Night – Can’tmakeagoodmovietosafehislife- with a twist – there are questions and consequences that the deluded must face.
If your god happens to be the right one, how is it merciful to condemn some 5 million other people to hell? How do you know your god is the “right” one, given the sectarian nature of the christian and muslim faiths you might be on the right team, but sitting in the wrong seats; so off to hell you go.
Did you ever get the feeling that religious people don’t stop to question their faith? Because a serious examination of the just the numbers presented here would indicate a pretty good chance of being FUBAR’ed right from get go. Even contemplating stuff like this makes the faithful bust out their jesus approved cotton balls ready to jammed down auditory canals served up with a side of “LALLLALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU!!!!”. But then again, reality is a fraught with anxiety, existential and otherwise and who wants to be staring down the barrel of that gun 24/7 (other than us hell bound atheists, of course).
Alright, we already know we have enough flashes to make one hell of a light show, but this gem is really too good not to give extra attention to.
Never coming to a science course near you. :)
Oh, probably not, but here is Discovering Religions take on why god isn’t necessary in our Universe.
