This Hitchens quotation captures the animating spirit of the DWR Sunday Religious Disservice. It is not a weekly sneer at believers, but a refusal to remain silent when religious authority shelters cruelty, stupidity, hypocrisy or injustice. Faith may explain a belief; it does not place that belief—or the institutions acting upon it—beyond scrutiny. There will be plenty of time for silence later.

This small clip features Hitchens at his best, dismantling the arguments of Christian apologists and believers with his acerbic wit and argumentation. Consider the horrible implications of the all knowing, all seeing, all father. I for one reject the tyrannical celestial dictatorship and the misanthropic beliefs it spawns.
Thank you for your powerful words and the courage modeled in dismantling the rotten specter of religion. That is all.
Christopher Hitchens 1949 – 2011.
