I ended up watching both the videos and they were very thoughtfully written and presented, especially in regard to how gaming affects our lives. Nobody is suggesting that games like this are going to make men commit acts of violence towards women, but they confirm certain ideas and paradigms that are used as excuses for it.
If companies are suggesting that these tropes are necessary in their games, I think it reflects very badly on them and their ability to come up with original ideas. It’s also patronizing to the male players that these games are targeted at.

I’ve enjoyed the series so far as well. What is remarkable(?) though is the amount of backlash and vitriol coming from entitled dudes who seem to believe that AS is singlehandedly bringing an end to video game fun forever(!!1!1!). The amount of hate they bring is completely out of line. Death threats, rape threats round out the misogyny that she faces everyday, so much so that she has closed her blog to comments to keep a lid on the toxicity.

Gamer Dudes are some of the worst type of misogynists out there because they have the power of anonymity and privilege (as most gamers are of at least a middle class background). Take a look at this video of a announcement for a new team in League of Legends and then be prepared to weep for humanity as you read the comments.
