This is very true, and it’s also important to note that it still persists, also in western cultures. Look for instance at married women being addressed as mrs. Husband’s Name.

Absolutely.
In our Western cultures though, we’re better at obfuscating the layered oppression that women face.
The history of patriarchy and the feminist response needs to be taught in schools. :/
