I first heard the term in the late ’60s referring to, as Peter says, seeing racism. But, like any good religion (oxymoron?), this anti-liberal groupthink ideology has stolen the term because it cannot create or build anything.

And the reference to Dr. Andrew Doyle and his satirical book Woke: A Guide to Social Justice is actually one of the best works to describe what’s going on.
Doyle, for those who may not know, wrote the book under the pen name Titania McGrath… his alter ego in the Twittersphere. Want to find out what is racist today? ‘Titania’ has collected dozens and dozens and dozens of real world articles about what is racist – from babies to rocks to ice cream – and listed them on ‘her’ feed. Also, ‘she’ collects articles on ‘her’ many pronouncements (as if a social justice warrior) about what is social justice in action proving ‘she’ is a seer (in some cases years before it actually happens) and demonstrating that there is no space in the ideology between extreme parody and its actual results in reality (Poe’s Law).

SM, this is true that’s it’s easier to destroy than build. But in the case of Wokism the issue very much matters when it’s used to justify the tearing down of everything liberal but utterly fails to provide a guide on what should replace it. So it’s just a destructive ideology. That’s why there is zero woke comedians: there’s is no redeeming element in its activism. The social justice warrior therefore has no virtue in fact other than feeling virtuous using fascist tactics to create a totalitarian society.
