It’s a sad day friends. I was all primed to deliver a hilarious disservice, mocking some religious lunacy that rivals e-meters, magic underwear, and sin-absorbing chickens. As I researched further, however, the humour faded rapidly to be replaced with revulsion and dismay. It all started earlier this week when I came upon this article. Teen exorcists with karate black-belts “kicking some demon butt” (yes, that’s an actual quote) across America are going to fight Satan in the UK. The article promised an hour long program about it later in the week on BBC Three, so I went to the BBC website for the show. It turns out only UK residents are allowed to watch it online, but the site did have three short clips for me to check out. This one showing the young ladies sharing their thoughts on Harry Potter is particularly revealing.
That is some kind of ridiculous, but my desire to mock was already quickly falling away. They are too young and too earnest. They seemed like they could be alumni from the hideous Jesus Camp. With apprehension, I tried to locate the program elsewhere on the web where I might view it. I couldn’t find the BBC program, but instead I found another documentary released a month ago. This one followed the exorcising trio to the Ukraine. Brace yourselves, ‘Disturbing Content’ doesn’t begin to cover it.
The level of creepy evil housed in that Reverend Bob is off the charts. He’s terrifying. I feel bad for those young women he’s brainwashed so he can use them for his personal gain. I feel much worse for the audiences they exploit . Most of all, I feel an overwhelming repugnance and disgust for Bob Larson.
Religious doctrine that is absolute bollocks for women, how rare.
Have you ever run up against a fine deluded individual who, in their desperation to ‘prove’ their grand ooga-booga exists, busts out the Ontological argument? It sucks, as the OA relies a lot on the more informal rhetorical process known as BBB or bullshit baffles brains. Let’s travel with AntiCitizenX as he unwends the spoor of the deluded and demonstrates how thin a claim the OA actually is.
Potholer54 does his usual service of disentangling the stupid vomited up by christians in their quest to win ultimate happy heaven land. Neutron stars, gentle readers, do not as postulated by the Yob in this video, sing the praises of god in any way shape or form. It being 2013, one would think that this sort of craptacular thinking would be out of style.
How you take the rotten carcass of religion to even a more repugnant level? Mix in the sham-psychology of positive affirmations and the greedy notions of robber baron capitalism. Mix this these foul artifacts together and you have what is known as the Prosperity Gospel. We are not here today to get into what the PG is all about and how frakked-up it is and the damage it is doing to the US.
Nope.
We are here to observe a christian who understood the ways of the world and let his faith (partially)inform, but not force his decisions. Here’s the quote.
“[..] the first truth is that the liberty of democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism – ownership of Government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. The second truth of liberty is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if its business system does not provide employment and produce and distribute goods in such a way to sustain an acceptable standard of living. “
Wow. I’m sure this individual would be quickly branded a communist traitor or a godless socialist by the standards of what passes for ‘debate’ in the US. Care to guess who said the above?
Yeah, so there was a time when you could be christain and rational, all at the same time. I pine for those times.
