The Westboro Baptist Church is the face of religion moderate religious folk prefer not to see. Intolerance, hate, and ignorance are all lauded values that are encouraged and propagated through this vile system. This clip is from 20/20 a mainstream documentary show in the USA. 20/20 gave a lot of air time to the fact that the WBC often protests at military funerals with its screeds celebrating the deaths of American soldiers. Patriotism is one angle that you can still attack religion in the US.
The clip is horrendous. The father and mother have the faces of the true believer (and they pass their hate on to their children), you can imagine they would be the ones happily torturing heretics and witches during the inquisition, or happily performing ethnic cleansing in the name of god. This is the twisted syrupy-sick hate filled face of Theocracy.
We at DWR stand and denounce this behaviour, in the name of decency, morality and rationality; concomitantly announcing to the world that Religion has no place in the 21st century.
The following clip is not surprising if you have been following the news about the Roman Catholic Church and the multitude of sexual assault cases it is been implicated in. Furthermore, the individual in charge of the rape-brigade priests is none other than Joseph Ratzinger, who now is the high exalted one in the RCC. Essentially the Cardinal’s role was to take the side of the abuser and to delay and obfuscate the process enough to maintain the status-quo.
What sort of moral fibre is this current pope made of considering that, by his writ, he allowed the abuse of children to continue under his watch? It is news like this that is always close to the top of my mind when I hear the pious bloviating on how there would be no morality without religion. Indeed.
A nice thought though, but I’m thinking that no amount of fact can lift the veil of ignorance religion has cast about the eyes of so many.
This is a delightful video. Nothing illustrates the absurdity of a bigoted position like keeping the content and switching the roles. Kudos to youtuber healthyaddict for posting this vid and especially for introducing me to Greta Christina’s Blog. I highly recommend checking the blog out for some truly thorough and well written debunking of theistic skulduggery.
Welcome readers to our next semi-regular feature here at DWR. The last Sunday Featurette was called the Sunday Creationist Smackdown and was geared toward providing a basis for succinctly arguing down the creationist god-babble one encounters on the Internet. The focus of this feature will be different.
The authors of this blog are in agreement that all religions are primarily an authoritarian, misogynistic, dehumanizing , regressive (really too many adjectives to list, but you get the idea) feature of societies. In a better world, religion and magical belief would be marginalized and placed in the dustbin of history to be used as a learning opportunity on how not to structure human society.
The Internet has allowed for a great deal of critical examination and refutation of religious dogma. The more rational inquiry there is into the rotten edifice of religion, the sooner it can be brought down and brought to heel allowing humanity to further progress into the 21st century without the delusional impediments religion brings to the table.
This video is the story of one woman’s trek into hell, sponsored by Allah and Islam. Her offence, being a woman for one, and secondly having the audacity not to wear a veil in public. Apologists say that Islam is a religion of peace, to which I say, where is this woman’s peace? Where is her dignity? Islam, like christianity is misogynistic, totalitarian and filled with xenophobia and hate. When it spills into the light we can see exactly how ugly “keeping the faith” is…

Trigger warning for violence and rape.
Mother Jones has an article and photo essay about the women self-immolating in Afghanistan reaffirming the utter lack of misogyny (funny how that correlates with religious belief) present in religiously deluded societies.
I highly recommend you take an hour of your time and arm yourself with the facts about cosmology and physics. Lawrence Krauss does a masterful job of describing how the Universe works and why no creator is necessary for our existence in the here and now.
