Former teacher, Carolyn Burjoski, is taking legal action against the Waterloo Region District School Board after being censored in a public school board meeting because she raised concerns about the age-inappropriateness of library books for children.
Trouble started when she turned to a book called The Other Boy by M.G. Hennessey and a scene that depicts a meeting between Shane, a transgender boy (born a girl), and a doctor. He voices excitement about starting on testosterone and when the physician says it would mean he likely wouldn’t be able to have children, he says, “It’s cool.”
As Burjoski remarked that such books make it seem overly straightforward to take cross-sex hormones, Piatkowski interjected to warn she may be violating the code.
The teacher said the book was misleading “because it does not take into account how Shane might feel later in life about being infertile. This book makes very serious medical interventions seem like an easy cure for emotional and psychological distress.”
At that point, Piatkowski told her he was “ending the presentation.”
The human rights code bars discrimination based on gender identity and other grounds in the areas of housing, employment and providing services.
Article contentThe widely used “affirmation” approach to children who identify as transgender has raised some concerns in several countries, and not just among obvious critics. Two leading psychologists in the transgender medical community, one of them a trans woman, complained in a recent article about sloppy and dangerous assessment of young people presenting as trans, with overly hasty resort to hormones.
In a statement, Burjoski said was relieved by the ruling.
“It is a significant victory and vindication, not just for me, but for everyone who dares to voice their valid concerns publicly,” she said. ”I hope this decision sends a strong message to school boards that the weaponization of human rights codes against concerned citizens is an undemocratic abuse of the code.”
Canadians are guaranteed the freedom of expression by our Charter of Rights. The self appointed sacred caste of trans has issues with people critiquing and discussion their vacuous ideology. The TQ+ community, because it doesn’t have a rational argument to stand on, then must rely on defamation, coercion, and social shaming to freeze out any debate of transgenderism and what its effects are on society.
“An Ontario judge has declared that human rights legislation “does not prohibit public discussion of anything,” in a free-speech victory for a teacher who was shut down when she raised concerns at a school board meeting about transgender-themed books in elementary school libraries.
“What happened here should not happen in a democratic society,” Ontario Superior Court Justice James Ramsay said in the case of now-retired teacher Carolyn Burjoski
“The Human Rights Code does not prohibit public discussion of issues related to transgenderism or minors and transgenderism. It does not prohibit public discussion of anything.”
Finally, one institution in Canada that isn’t kowtowing to gender ideology.
“Piatkowski later told a local CTV station, however, that Burjoski’s comments were actually transphobic and “questioned the right to exist” of trans people. He said he had no choice but to expel the teacher from the meeting. He told 570 News radio that Burjoski was “disrespectful” towards transgender people and was “not promoting healthy debate” at the meeting. The organization took down its recording of the meeting — a regular, public session of elected officials — and had YouTube remove another copy of the video for alleged copyright infringement.”
Ah. The right to exist. This is one of the favourite motte and bailey rhetorical dodges of the transgender ideologues. The question at hand was should books that present a false narrative of ‘transition’ be available to elementary school children. Nothing to do with existence or ‘erasing’ trans people.
“She launched a defamation lawsuit, which the board sought to have thrown out. In a Nov. 23 ruling, Ramsay dismissed the bid and ordered the board to pay Burjoski $30,000 in costs. He said her claims have merit and should be allowed to proceed, adding the comments made against her were “defamatory.”
“They accused her of breaching the Human Rights Code, questioning the right of trans persons to exist and engaging in speech that included hate. She did not do any of those things,” the judge said in his ruling.
“The chairman of the board acted with malice or at least, with a reckless disregard for the truth. He had made an embarrassingly erroneous and arbitrary decision to silence a legitimate expression of opinion and he was widely criticized for it. It is not a stretch to infer that, realizing that, he tried to justify himself with the public by assassinating the plaintiff’s character.”
The judge said he saw no prospect Piatkowski will be able to prove his statements were based in fact, since he accused her of saying things she did not say.
Hopefully our Supreme Court won’t overrule this correct decision in favour of free speech in Canada.
The London Museum in London Ontario Canada has erased April Hutchinson from the exhibit that she was featured in and also helped to set up. What was this woman’s crime? She advocates on her own time that her sport should be segregated by sex. That is, she should not have to compete against men who happen to ‘identify’ as women. April is being punished and erased because she wants a fair playing field for those who participate in the sport of female power-lifting.
More stories are coming out everyday about women being excluded, erased, and shamed for want to protect and preserve their rights, spaces, and safety in Canadian society.
So, my fellow No Space for Hate’ people – it is way past time to dig past the hollow slogans you support and actually see the result of your, what I can only term as ‘low information’ stance. There is a serious conflict going on right now in society between females and a small vocal minority of men who identify as women. The males in dresses are erasing females from society and as a distinct class. This trend must be reversed and female rights and reality must be preserved.
This excerpt from Leor Sapir’s article – The Deposition of Jack Turban – One of America’s leading gender clinicians proves that he doesn’t understand evidence-based medicine.
“Ramer asked Turban to explain the GRADE method (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluations), a standardized EBM framework for evaluating quality. “GRADE generally involves looking at the research literature,” Turban explained. “And then there’s some subjectivity to it, but they provide you with general guidelines about how you would—like, great level of confidence in the research itself. Then there’s a—and then each of those get GRADE scores. I think it’s something like low, very low, high, very high. I could be wrong about the exact names of the categories.” Turban is indeed wrong: the categories are high, moderate, low, and very low. It’s surprising that someone involved in the debate over gender-medicine research for several years, and who understands that questions of GRADE and of quality are central, doesn’t know this by heart.
Ramer asked Turban what method, if any, he uses to assess quality in gender-medicine research. Turban explained that he reads the studies individually and does his own assessment of bias. GRADE is “subjective,” and this subjectivity, Turban said, is one reason that the U.K. systematic reviews rated studies that he commonly cites as “very low” quality. Turban’s thinking seems to be that, because GRADE is “subjective,” it is no better than a gender clinician sitting down with individual studies and deciding whether they are reliable.
I asked Guyatt to comment on Turban’s understanding of systematic reviews and GRADE. “Assessment of quality of evidence,” he told me, “is fundamental to a systematic review. In fact, we have more than once published that it is fundamental to EBM, and is clearly crucial to deciding the treatment recommendation, which is going to differ based on quality of evidence.” Guyatt said that “GRADE’s assessment of quality of the evidence is crucial to anybody’s assessment of quality of evidence. It provides a structured framework. To say that the subjective assessment of a clinician using no formal system is equivalent to the assessment of an expert clinical epidemiologist using a standardized system endorsed by over 110 organizations worldwide shows no respect for, or understanding of, science.”
At one point, Ramer pressed Turban to explain his views on psychotherapy as an alternative to drugs and surgeries. Systematic reviews have rated the studies Turban relies on for his support of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones “very low” quality in part because these studies are confounded by psychotherapy. Because the kids who were given drugs and improved were also given psychotherapy and the studies lack a proper control group, it is not possible to know which of these interventions caused the improvement.
Turban seemed not to grasp the significance of this fact. If hormonal treatments can be said to cause improvement despite confounding psychotherapy, why can’t psychotherapy be said to cause improvement despite confounding drugs?
The exchange about confounding factors came up in the context of Ramer asking Turban about an article he wrote for Psychology Today. The article, aimed at a popular audience, purports to give an overview of the research that confirms the necessity of “gender-affirming care.” Last year, I published a detailed fact-check of the article, showing how Turban ignores confounding factors, among other problems. Four days later, Psychology Today made a series of corrections to Turban’s article. Some of these corrections were acknowledged in a note; others were done without any acknowledgement. In the deposition, Ramer asked Turban about my critique, to which Turban replied that he “left Psychology Today to do whatever edits they needed to do,” and that, when he later read the edits, he found them “generally reasonable.”
In sum, though Turban says that “there are no evidence-based psychotherapy protocols that effectively treat gender dysphoria itself,” the same studies he cites furnish just as much evidence for psychotherapy as they do for puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones—which is to say “very low” quality evidence.”
The quality of evidence that Gender Affirming Care works is “Very Low”. In other words those who argue for Gender Affirming Care are arguing from a base of low quality, probably confounded evidence that doesn’t say what they think it says. It just another example of how the pseudo-science of gender identity is propagated by believers – even medical doctors – over the principles of evidence based medicine. The University of Alberta is my alma mater. What the actual fuck is going on at this institution? The University of Alberta’s Sexual Assault Centre signed a letter that denies the rape and sexual violence against Israeli women on October 7th, 2023 – the day when Hamas terrorists invaded Israel. This incident of anti-antisemitism and misogyny was reported in the Toronto Sun.
“The University of Alberta Sexual Assault Centre has signed onto an open letter penned by ousted Ontario MPP Sarah Jama that denies Israeli women were subjected to rape and sexual violence on Oct. 7.”
Let’s take a look at the open letter and see exactly what the Woke Left or the so called progressives are calling for:
“Residing in so called Canada” – This is plainly expressed hatred of a Western Nation and its values. This is what the activist Left are about – the tearing down of Western society and hatred for the values the West holds.
And there we have it black and white – Let me quote it for you. “Meanwhile, Jagmeet Singh repeated the unverified accusation that Palestinians were guilty of sexual violence…“
Keep reading these depraved individuals somehow think they are on the side of morality and justice – while calling Canada a settler-colonial country. Which country on earth hasn’t been settled at one time or another. This bullshit anti-colonialism is nothing but a rancid attempt at justifying violence but making it sound “progressive”. It is shit from stem to stern.
Note the unironic use of the phrase “right side of history…”
And there we have it. The University of Alberta Sexual Assault Centre signature on a letter endorsing the idea that Jewish women lied about the sexual violence and rape perpetrated against them by Hamas terrorists on October 7th, 2023.
Nothing short of the executive resigning in disgrace will be acceptable.
The response in the West to the Hamas terror attack and kidnapping of Israeli citizens is worth analyzing. Major Western institutions lent their support to the cause of “Free Palestine” and the like. It seems a bit off target to me, as better messaging would focus on Hamas freeing the hostages and surrendering the individuals responsible for committing gross acts of terror and barbarity against a civilian population.
In most of the protest coverage I’ve seen there has been little to no call for accountability upon the elected government of Gaza (Hamas). What I have seen and heard are slogans around the theme of “Palestine from the River to the Sea.”

So, from “The River to the Sea” is the complete erasure of the state of Israel and the expulsion/decimation of the Jewish people that live there. You would think that people involved in protests that used this slogan would be horrified and not participate in protests calling for genocide. The sentiment was repeated by union leaders in Canada:
“Mr. Hahn, whose CUPE Ontario represents almost 300,000 workers and calls itself the “political wing of the Canadian Union of Public Employees,” said in one social-media post on Sunday, the day after the initial attacks, that he was thankful for “the power of resistance around the globe.”
He added that “resistance is fruitful and no matter what some might say, resistance brings progress.” He also shared an image on Instagram that contained the text, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” – a phrase associated with calls for the destruction of Israel.
On Tuesday, Mr. Ford condemned Mr. Hahn’s posts. Mr. Ford said in a statement that he does not believe Mr. Hahn’s views reflect those of the tens of thousands of workers represented by the union.
“The comments by the president of CUPE Ontario glorifying and celebrating the rape, abduction and murder of innocent Israeli people are disturbing, and I denounce them wholeheartedly,” the statement said.”
Yeah. Canadian Universities were also getting in on celebrating or at least not speaking out against the rape, abduction, and murder of innocent people. (Some American Universities were also complicit.)
“A statement from McMaster began with the phrase, “Violence is never the answer and we hope that everyone would focus on the human costs when such attacks on civilians occur.” It added: “Our thoughts are with our students, faculty and staff, both Israeli and Palestinian, who have family and loved ones in the area.” An initial statement from the University of Toronto expressed concern for the safety of students and faculty in the Middle East, and those who have friends or family there.
Several social-media users reacted with outrage to the statements, which they characterized as inappropriately ambivalent. Andrew Morris, a professor at the University of Toronto’s faculty of medicine, was among them.”
One would think that it would be a fairly easy slam dunk to condemn actions that included the rape, torture and kidnapping of civilians. For the record –
“According to the Israeli prime minister’s office, more than 1,400 people have been killed in Israel, with 6,900 others injured. At least 32 of those killed are Americans. And Israeli officials say 239 people are being held hostage in Gaza. Ten Americans remain unaccounted for, “some significant number” of which are hostages, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Oct. 24. Israeli officials say 357 IDF soldiers have been killed since Oct. 7, including 39 since the ground campaign began.”
Canadian Unions and Universities dropped the ball on this one and at least three are being taken to court for their lack of action on antisemitism.
Hopefully the lawsuits will be a reminder to them of the Western values they should be defending.
